OMG! these cookies!

OMFG these cookies.

A while ago, I had a craving for oatmeal cookies. (Obsessive readers will remember that fiasco.) It was one of those inexplicable things (I’m ambivalent towards oatmeal and hate the raisins they’re usually studded with) but the desire would not go away, and since I firmly believe the best way to get rid of desire is to just give in … voila.

I can’t remember where I got the recipe from originally (sorry!) but I modified it a good deal anyway, so in the grand tradition of cookery I’m renaming it and pretending it was my idea from the beginning, ahem.

These are vegan, they are not healthy, and they have enough sugar to rot out your teeth from a single bite (consider yourself warned). They’re also super chewy and chocolaty and addictive and (in my humble opinion) the best goddamn cookies imaginable.
The first batch went fast. Cullen and I kept saying “OH MY GOD” and eating another one (sometimes we added an F to the OMG).

OMG Oatmeal Cookies (… with chocolate)
(makes a lot – about 40 good-sized cookies)

1 cup vegan margarine, melted
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
2 tsp cinnamon

1 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup chocolate chip

in one bowl, mix fist set of ingredients. in second bowl, mix second set of ingredients. combine both mixtures in large bowl.
form into drop cookies.
bake in pre-heated oven for fifteen minutes at 350 degrees.

  1. I still can’t believe you sent me some of these OMFG fantastic cookies! We are officially in LOVE!

I’m so making these as soon as I can get to the store. Is vegan margarine something that’s hard to find? Or is most margarine vegan?

Oh, and here in Minnesota, 1 cup of sugar would not even raise an eyebrow. And half a cup of chocolate chips? Are you sure you didn’t mean half a bag? I’m going to pretend you meant half a bag…

    • I doubt the cookies would hold together with more chocolate chips! But if you do add more … let me know how it turns out :) And don’t worry about the vegan margarine (unless you’re making it for a vegan, of course). Any sort of margarine or butter would work. Maybe even homemade butter …?!

      • I’m good at forcing chocolate to do my will…I’ll let you know how they turn out with more chips! I think I’ll make some tomorrow night with Ian. Thanks again for the recipe!
